My Grandma McMullen used to say: If your palm itches your coming into money, don't make that face it'll stick like that, count the sheep it's time for sleep and an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

  • A bird flying into your house for no apparent reason, is a sign of good luck and fortune for the owner
  • Step on a crack you'll break your mother's back
  • Don't walk under the ladder, supposedly you will break a spiritual triangle and leave you vulnerable to the devil
  • If you give a knife as a gift you have to add a penny or you will sever the friendship
  • If an apple bursts in the oven while baking, good news is on the way for the cook
  • Spilling salt is a well known sign of trouble. Throw a pinch of salt or pepper over the left shoulder to avoid the hex.
  • Crossing knives while setting the dinner table foretells a long journey
  • Silverware dropped at the table indicates the impending arrival of a visitor – fork represents a man, a spoon a woman
  • Never take your broom with you when you move, always buy a new one or any bad luck you had will follow you.
  • When your cupboard doors are left open, people are gossiping about you

We've all heard of old wives tales but I heard one the other day I never heard before. My friend made me a cup of coffee and when he handed it to me there were bubbles in the center and said "your coming into money". I said "what"? and he went on to tell me his grandmother always said that. Here it is:

Bubbles in your morning coffee predict money. If they are near the side of the cup you drink from the money will come soon, if on the far side, money will come slowly.

Yes...It was on my side. I still won't go outside with wet hair, walk under a ladder but I will live with the 5 second rule.
