UPDATE: 05/29/2016 2:22pm  Police are asking anyone with information about today's explosion in Floyd, New York to come forward after a corrections officer was injured.

Because of the nature of the crime local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies are involved in the investigation.  Anyone with information that may be helpful to police is asked to call: (315) 765.2237.

UPDATE: 05/29/2016  2:12pm  The Oneida County Sheriff's Office has issued a written press release regarding today's incident which reads as follows:

"According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the Sheriff's Office is investigating a package that exploded outside a residence on Old Floyd Road in the Town of Floyd. Around 8:00am, a resident of the home picked up a package that was near his mailbox and it then exploded. The victim, a 52 year old male, sustained burns to his upper extremities and was initially taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital and has since been transported to SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

The victim is currently employed as a Correction Officer for the NYS Department of Corrections. It is unknown at this time if this incident is connected to the victim's employment as a State Correction Officer.

According to Sheriff Maciol, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office has case responsibility with this investigation and they are being assisted by the New York State Police, the Utica Police Department, the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms), and the NYS Department of Corrections.

Initially at the scene, the Sheriff's Office was also assisted by the Floyd Fire Department and AmCare Ambulance.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident or if they have seen anything suspicious in the area of Old Floyd Road, they are being asked to call the Oneida County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Unit at 765-2237."

UPDATE: 05/29/2016 2:07pm  Investigators say that one person was injured in the explosion.  The victim is being identified as a 52-year-old man.

He is listed in stable condition at Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse.

The name of the victim has not yet been officially released.

UPDATE: 05/29/2016  11:45am The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspicious package that exploded in the Town of Floyd this morning, May 29, 2016.

Multiple witnesses are reporting that an explosion of some kind has been heard in Floyd, New York but police have not yet released details.

According to a neighbor, the residents of a home found a package outside of the residence.  The unconfirmed report is that there was an explosion shortly thereafter.

At this time there are no reports of injuries or property damage.

Emergency responders are on the scene.
