Bravo Developing Coke vs. Pepsi Scripted TV Series
For ages now, the ancient battle between Coca-Cola and Pepsi has raged on across countless battlefields, every advantage begetting yet another defeat, as the corporations strive for soft drink victory. For many, this war has raged on silently, its frenzied carnage confined to a supermarket shelf, but isn't it time we see the drama play out on the screen? Bravo certainly thinks so, crafting yet another scripted drama of its own to follow the infamous Cola Wars of the 1980s, but will the idea fizzle out?
Whether or not you realize the amount of drama present during the advertising "cola wars" of the 1980s between Coca-Cola and Pepsi, Bravo wants them to be a name you remember. According to Deadline, the mostly reality-based network has begun developing its third original scripted drama, one which would follow characters in New York during the height of the Coke/Pepsi rivalry.
The script for the as-yet-untitled series comes from 'Flipping Out' and 'Interior Therapy' producer Andrew Hoegl. The "Coke vs. Pepsi" series also marks the first time Bravo has culled from its reality talent for scripted drama, of which there are now three in development. Other series include a TV adaptation of 'Heathers' and the 'Joneses.'
What say you? Do you think a corporate drama of Coke vs. Pepsi set in the '80s could make for an interesting drama? Might there be a dash of 'Mad Men' to it?
