A brave 5 year-old Oneida boy is being hailed a hero for calling 911 after an accident killed his mother and sister. The crash happened Sunday night after Ellen Caswell lost control of her vehicle and hit a utility pole. She died at the scene and her 10 year-old daughter Kelsey, was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. 5 year-old Kadyn wasn't seriously injured and his uncle, Canastota Police Chief Jim Zophy says he showed "more courage then me and more bravery than most" by calling for help.

Zophy shared the heartbreaking story of Kadyn's courage:

"The boy climbs out of his car seat, falling to the ground barefoot. There is no light other than the vehicles fading headlights. The boy checks his mother, who died in the crash and his sister, who he thinks is also dead. At that moment he is completely alone, at age five in the woods in the middle of the night and doesn't panic. He finds his mom's phone in the dark and calls his father and says, "Dad, mom and sissy are dead and I am in the woods in a bush." Imagine being the parent that receives that call in the middle of the night. The dad stayed on the phone and went to look for his son. With some coaxing the father broke the telephone connection to his son and asked him to call 911. Neither wanted to let go fearing they wouldn't be connected again, but the young man did as he was told. After minutes, which had to seen like hours to both father and son, the accident was located and the boy was safe. However both his mother and sister died in the accident. I arrived and held that little boy as tight as I could and when I asked if he was okay he said, "This is my mom's blood. I only have a sunburn Uncle Jim. Mom and sissy are dead and I would be too if I didn't have my car seat." Not a tear in the boy's eyes but mine sure as hell opened up. He used my phone to reconnect with his dad and sat in my truck like a man until his father arrived. I asked if I could carry him to his dad but he said no, he wanted to walk. I couldn't let any hero walk, so I carried him anyway. My reason for telling such a terrible story is because that boy is 5 year old Kadyn Depasquale, my Saint Michael, my hero, my courage and admiration. If I could choose my partner I'd ride with him any day. God bless you Kadyn, I love you and I hope I am as strong as you someday!"

Pete Bianco, who was one of the 911 dispatchers working that night says, "Kadyn was amazing. He did everything we asked him to do, he was so brave and calm. I have been doing this job for 20 yrs and I have never had a call that got to me that bad. I cried all the way home and then hugged all my kids. We all did our best trying to locate them before he called 911. Please hug that boy for me. He's amazing and would be honored to meet this hero! I'll never forget his words and how calm and mature Kadyn was."

Remember to hug your family a little closer tonight and say a prayer for this family, who is grieving a heartbreaking loss.
