While 14,000 runners will be taking part in this year’s Boilermaker Road Race in Utica, there’s another Boilermaker race taking place over 6,700 miles away. It’s called the Boilermaker Shadow run and it takes place in Afghanistan.

According to WIBX, Boilermaker Executive Director Tim Reed says service men and women will be holding a “Shadow Run” in Afghanistan.

Reed says there were contacted just last week by troops serving in Afghanistan about holding the run. He says this will be the 5th Boilermaker Shadow Run and the second in Afghanistan. Three other runs have been held in Iraq.

Here in the states, the 35th running of the Boilermaker takes place on Sunday, July 8th.
