Australian comedy troupe SketchShe is lighting up the internet with their enthusiastic and self-caressing version of the ever-popular "singing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in a car" video.

The trio aim to provide a "cheeky and brazen mixed bag of sketches and characters to tickle your funny bone," and warn that this video "may contain head banging, boob grabbing and heartfelt emotion." Despite – or let's be honest, probably because of – that warning, over 15,000,000 people have checked out this video in its first 10 days online.

If you're waiting for a punchline or satirical twist at the end of this clip, you're in for a disappointment; there don't seem to be any deeper themes at work here. The funniest explanation we've found so far for this video's success comes from the Loom, who speculate that a large part of the audience consists "of women hate-watching it and straight men waiting for it to turn into porn."

The "'Bohemian Rhapsody' in a car" video gimmick was born over 20 years ago with the absolutely wonderful opening sequence of the 1992 Mike Myers comedy Wayne's World. The actor had to fight to use the highly layered 1975 Queen classic in the hit film, but was validated when the song roared back to the top of the pop charts and won an MTV Video Music Award.
