Four Bison escaped from a farm in Ulster County Saturday night and ended up on the New York State Thruway.   Two of the giant animals ran southbound onto the Thruway near Saugerties, and two headed for the northbound lanes.  The Times Herald Record reports that there were no injuries or accidents.  However, when the owner arrived at the scene he had to put the animals down.

What amazes is me is that these distant cousins of the buffalo were once nearly extinct.  And now they can be seen on farms across New York State.  In fact there are bison right in Clinton at Harding Farm.  The bed & breakfast, wedding venue and working farm just recently had a new addition to their bison family.

Surprise Addition at Harding Farm this morning!

Fortunately, Harding Farm has never had any trouble with their bison escaping!
