Many were skeptical at the idea of bringing a young Norman Bates to the small-screen for 'Psycho' prequel 'Bates Motel,' but the more we see of the A&E series, the more it seems tantalizingly dark. We've seen a number of photos from the pilot, and some seriously disturbing teasers, but nothing quite gets the blood pumping like the first official trailer of 'Bates Motel!' Learn what made Norman Bates 'Psycho' with the new trailer inside!

Mother issues, motels and murder, all the major checkpoints are taken care of in A&E's first official trailer for 'Bates Motel,' the 2013 'Psycho' prequel TV series from 'LOST' show-runner Carlton Cuse and 'Friday Night Lights' writer Kerry Ehrin. Deadline managed to score the dark new series' first trailer, which looks to be a lot more complicated than a young Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore)'s twisted relationship with his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga).

In addition to Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga as the titular Bates clan, the series also includes Max Thieriot as long-lost Bates brother Dylan, ‘LOST’s’ Nestor Carbonell as “edgy” Sheriff Alex Romero, Mike Vogell as his deputy Zach Shelby, Olivia Cooke as Norman’s handicapped friend Emma Decody, and ‘The Last Airbender’s Nicola Peltz as high school it-girl Bradley.

'Bates Motel' has yet to issue an official premiere date, but the twisted new series will definitely open its doors in 2013. Check out the trailer below, and tell us if 'Bates Motel' gets your blood pumping in the comments!
