Two Rome Men Arrested on Heroin and Gun Charges
Rome Police have arrested two men after seizing heroin and a handgun from a residence there. On Tuesday afternoon members of a NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force recovered a male from a Rome apartment on First Street. While there, they saw narcotics in the residence, and contacted Rome police.

Black Bear Spotted on Higby Road in New Hartford
A black bear has been spotted in a residential area of Higby Road in New Hartford. Christine Martin took a photo of the footprint left by the beast that was taking a winter stroll through her neighborhood. Martin's daughter spotted the bear in her back yard on Tuesday night on Higby, near Mohawk Street, on her way home from work.
Schenectady City Council Bans Smoking and Driving With Child Passengers
Drivers who smoke in the City of Schenectady are no longer allowed to do so when a child is present as a passenger. The City Council passed legislation for the ban on Tuesday night in a 5-1 vote.

Chittenango Man Charged Under ‘Leandra’s Law’ in Remsen
New York State Police have arrested 34-year-old Sean McDonald of Chittenango for felony DWI. The incident occurred on State Route 12 in The Town of Remsen. McDonald was pulled over for speeding on Saturday, and it was discovered that he allegedly had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. Also in the vehicle was a six-year-old child.
