We may not have the "World's Largest Ball of Twine," but Oneida County is still home to a very "unique" attraction for out-of-towners.

For those seeking the more interesting things in life like all the roadside attractions you can see while driving across the country, you know that every area has some sort of attraction - No matter how big or small. Oneida County is no different. Their "unique" attraction (that's perfect for travelers wanting to see something different), is comfortably nestled in the city of Rome.

The next time you're in the Rome area, you may want to take a little detour to the H.P. Sears Oil Museum. This little piece of history dates back to the 1930s. According to New York Upstate,

[It's from] when Sears was a big name in fuel in this part of Upstate. It is all here... Glass dome gas pumps, red-white-and-blue colors on the equipment, an underground oil changing station, and more.

You can take a peek into our past by visiting this museum yourself on North George Street in Rome. Take a moment to walk around the site and take in all the little details, and see how much things have changed just since the 1930s.

New York Upstate also lists the "Quirky Roadside Attractions" in Herkimer, Madison, and Onondaga Counties. Actually, they list an interesting attraction for all of New York's 62 counties. You can scroll through their full list here.
