The Mount Vision Fire department is mourning the loss of one of their own after a tragic accident. Assistant Chief Adam Burgess was killed while clearing roadside trees in Otsego.

A tree fell, hitting Burgess in the head. He died at the hospital from a skull fracture according to The Daily Star.

The fire department honored Burgess on Facebook, posting a picture of his fire jacket and helmet. Several other departments posted their condolences.

"The Hartwick Fire Department sends its deepest condolences to Adams family, friends and brothers and sisters in the fire service. We stand ready to assist you all, in any way we can. Fly high Adam. You will truly be missed."

"On behalf of the Treadwell fire dept we send our thoughts and prayers your way."

"The Sidney Center fire department and emergency squad send out condolences to a fellow brother and his family. Fly high Adam."

A funeral is planned for Saturday November 28th at Laurens Central School.

Fire Chief Jim Cox tells the Daily Star, Burgess, whom he considered a close friend, was "one of a kind. He was just an absolutely wonderful human being, a wonderful friend and a very dedicated fireman. He was the first person you'd call if you needed a hand, just an all-around good person. I never heard anyone say a bad thing about him."

Burgess was only 27 years-old.
