Wow, Halloween is just a couple of days away. Are you ready? I guess the bigger question would be are your pets ready?Yeah, I know there are many of you out there that dress your pets up for Halloween. I’ve seen the costumes in the stores. I’m pretty sure my 2 animals would hate me forever if I put them through that.

The costumes are fun and all, and we love to celebrate Halloween in many ways involving our pets, but of course we must never forget the safety aspect of all of it. The American Animal Hospital Association reminds us to be aware of the four main elements when it comes to pets and Halloween. Food, environment, attire, and recovery.

Food – When food falls into the hands of children, it is easily dropped, as we all know. If your dog is anything like my dog, they are a living vacuum cleaner grabbing up just about anything that hits the floor. Remember that chocolate is extremely toxic to animals.

Environment – Be aware of the increase activities in your area. Children are out and about in costume. That alone could cause some serious stress for our furry friends.

Attire – If you must dress your pet for Halloween, follow the safety rules and don’t put them in something that they won’t be able to comfortably move around in.

Recovery – Have a plan in place for if your pet becomes sick or lost during Halloween.
