With each passing year, more and more people are “cutting the cord”, which means that they are finally getting rid of cable television, once and for all.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could just pay for the channels that we actually watch?

One satellite company is now offering a streaming program that actually doesn’t require cable or satellite.  You simply watch TV with an app, and say goodbye to the cable box.  No contract or equipment.  Nice, huh?  In reality, you are not spending the big bucks for channels you never plan to watch.  Who’s watching CSpan?

More and more details are coming out from other companies planning to offer streaming services later this year.  Plans are that you will be able to watch HBO and Showtime without even subscribing to cable or satellite.

Something I have been considering doing for some time now is actually get rid of the cable and keep the cable internet.  Last year more than 10 million people in the U.S. did exactly that, finding Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Prime, to be effective ways of watching an entire season of a particular show.  This is called “binge watching”, in case you didn’t already know.  Many are watching television this way now?  Why? Mostly because they can watch at their own leisure and now be forced to deal with cliffhangers for their favorite programs.  Also, you guessed it, no commercials.

With all that is new, there are still many who won’t budge from their same old routine.  Just like the folks who are afraid to use the computer,  won’t veer away from their VCR, still listen to their vinyl and watch their TV on their console set.

For Christmas I received a Google Chromcast.  You’ve seen this, it plugs into the HDMI port on your television and you can stream programming right from your smart phone or tablet.  I’m absolutely loving it and I can’t wait for more content to be available for me to watch using that method.  My problem is that I’m locked into a 2 year contract with Direct TV.  I think I have a year left to go.  I’ll just have to wait and see how far this goes after another year.  Looking forward to it, especially the $$$ I plan to save!ie
