Ok, gas prices have been going down, then they go up again, and back down.  Up or down, the bottom line is, it's still too high.  at too high to take the vacation you want, loading up the kids in the family truckster and heading to Wally World.  Oh wait, that's the Griswolds back in the late 70's after the gas crisis of '76.  Just a few ideas of some things you can do right here in Central New York and you won't have to take out a second mortgage to fill up the gas tank.   Here are just a few ideas.

1.  Hike Bald mountain - Less than an hour drive from Utica, faily simple hike - I've seen 2 year olds on this mountain.

2.  Camping - Hello?  You're right near the heart of the Adirondacks.  Lot's of places to camp.  State parks are less expensive, but don't necessarily have the amenities as the private campgrounds.  Lots of good ones, and they are less than an hour's drive from the Utica area.

3.  How about Cooperstown?  I can never spend too much time at the National Baseball Hall of fame, but if you are not a baseball fan, you can check out the Fenimore Cooper Museum as well as the Farmer's museum.

4.   Howe Caverns, voted a Top 5 Northeast Family Attraction by Disney's Family Fun readers.
