Well, I never thought I would see the day. Last week I talked about a reboot of ‘The Neverending Story’, well this week I’m talking about the buzz I’m hearing about a reboot of ‘The Labyrinth’.

Apparently Sony has already closed a deal with the Jim Henson Company to produce the reboot of the 1986 fantasy film in which a quite young Jennifer Connellly tries to rescue her brother from the grasps of the Goblin King, played by the late great David Bowie.

Many, I’m sure, are saying “Too soon after Bowie’s death”, or “Why ruin a classic?” First, I’m pretty sure this was in the works long before we lost Bowie. Second, the movie is 30 years old this year, why not give it a facelift? Also, we’re not even sure if it will be a lot like the original, or a new take on the original, or actually a sequel. Either way, I would be interested to see new special effects, 2016 style.

Many don’t realize this, but Labyrinth actually bombed at the box office back in the 80s, but became a cult hit later, mostly thanks to the large number of Bowie fans. That’s where I come in. I was happy to introduce the original movie to my kids last year. Yes I own the DVD.

What do you think? Remake the classic or leave it alone? Let me know how you feel about it on Facebook at Facebook.com/961theeagle
