It’s getting close to that time of year again where we, as parents, get concerned about people tampering with Halloween candy.  It’s an epidemic that has plagued this holiday for decades.  I remember the stories when I was younger, and now, thanks to, broader news coverage and social media, the hype has reached a level we have never seen.  Jump onto youtube and just do a search about needle in Halloween candy…you’ll find a ton of clips, similar to the one I have here.

Is it all hype?  Are there really that many cases of Halloween candy being tampered with?  Maybe, but do we want to take that chance and ignore the warnings?  Not likely, we’re talking about our most valuable asset at stake…our children.  Just a couple of things to remember when heading out with your kids to do the trick or treating.

They always say to visit houses of people you know.  These days, that number could be slim.  I’m just saying to be familiar with your neighborhood and don’t stray too far from it.

As always, do a thorough check of your children’s loot when they get home and advise them not to snack while out doing the collecting.  Usually pretty easy to detect if candy has been tampered with.  Try to avoid candy that does not appear to have been factory wrapped and definitely avoid treats that aren’t wrapped at all.

Just some things to be aware of, I know for the most part we generally are well informed.
