The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim caught the biggest fish of the free agency season as they’ve landed St. Louis Cardinals’ first baseman and three-time NL MVP Albert Pujols.

Pujols reportedly agreed to a 10-year deal for between $250 million and $260 million.

The Cardinals had offered Pujols $200 million over nine years to stay, and he was also being heavily courted by the Miami Marlins. The 31-year-old has played his whole career in St. Louis, registering a .328 batting average, 445 home runs, and 1,329 runs batted in. He had a slightly down year last season while dealing with an arm injury, posting a .299 average with 37 homers and 99 RBIs.

Though the deal clearly makes the Angels a greater offensive force to be reckoned with, some may question the wisdom in signing an aging slugger to such a long-term deal.
