8-Bit Sound Effects Vastly Improve ‘The Matrix Reloaded’

Someone has replaced all of the dialogue and noises from a fight scene in 'The Matrix Reloaded' with sound effects from 8-bit video games. We have a feeling this is going to be a thing.

The scene in question is the chalet fight scene where Neo takes on dozens of henchmen of the Merovingian, also known as the Frenchman, in order to escape with the rescued Keymaker. While this explanation for the action sequence is as silly and nonsensical as it sounds, the actual fight scene is pretty good. By adding the sound effects from 8-bit classics over each punch, kick, jump, fall and gunshot, editor Phillip Raupach has made it epic. The sources for these sound effect range from Mega Man to Super Mario Bros., Punch-Out!! and Konami’s legendary 2-player shooter, Contra. These retro classics provide sound effects and a chip-tune score that fits the scene in a way that is both bizarre and perfect. Even the Frenchman’s speech has been replaced with what sounds like Doc Louis’ advice to Little Mac in Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! While the video is called '8-Bit Matrix,' there are definitely some Street Fighter II sounds in there, indicating that some 16-bit sounds made it in.

We’ve seen full 8-bit re-imaginings of popular movies before from the YouTube channel CineFix, but this is a simpler and funnier concept. We have a strong feeling there will be a lot more scenes like this in the near future, and that isn't a bad thing.
