5 Things That Could Fill The Gander Mtn And Kmart Buildings

Since the news has broken that both Gander Mountain and Kmart in New Hartford will be closing their doors soon, we started thinking of what could replace them.

More importantly, what is something really cool that could take up that unused retail space?

How about a Wegmans? The grocery super chain is a fan favorite and was recently named the 2nd best company in the U.S. to wok for. Either building would be perfect.

Go Karts - maybe something like the indoor go karts inside Destiny U.S.A. Remember Track & Bat on Commercial Drive back in the day? An indoor track could be open year-round and you could even add other attractions like bumper boats and mini-golf.

Paintball/Laser Tag - imagine having a huge space to play either one of these? There could be multiple floors/playing areas. Remember the Battle Zone in New York Mills?

Dave & Buster's - Video games, beer, great food and sports on giant TV's. Do I need to say more?

Indoor Water Park - These have been growing in popularity as technology makes it easier to build slides. You may have visited the one at Great Escape in Lake George. If you think the buildings aren't big enough, think again. I visited one in Ohio in 2016 that was crammed into a building no bigger than a McDonald's.
