You can always watch the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Utica and head down Varick Street to celebrate, but here are some other ways to feel festive during this Irish holiday...

Enjoy Some Corned Beef and Cabbage

Nothing says St. Patrick's Day quite like getting a traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage. And you have a lot of options for great corned beef and cabbage throughout Central New York. Why not try the Celtic Harp in Utica? Tiny's Bar and Grill on State Street also has their "corned beef and kielbasa." Or head out to Rome to Eddie's Paramount Diner for their corned beef and cabbage with horseradish sauce.

Take Photos of the Irish Celebrations

You don't have to sit and watch the parade to have a fun St. Patrick's Day (if you don't want to). Maybe head over to Varick Street and get photos of everyone celebrating. You can also keep your eye out for decorations and landmarks lit up in green for the day. Maybe make a whole event out of it: Take a ton of photos, post them on Facebook and Twitter, or create your own YouTube video of all the "green scenery." It's a nice way to do something different on St. Patty's Day. You don't have to get smashed to enjoy the holiday.

Get Dressed Up in Green

You don't have to be a part of the parade or go bar-to-bar to get dressed up in green. No matter what you have going on, wear your green. And you can do that for the day of the St. Patrick's parade AND for the actual St. Patrick's Day. Or just do it for one of the days... Whatever you want to do, it's your way to celebrate. You may want to skip all the beads and shot glass necklaces for this one, though.

Have a Green Drink

Sure you don't have to go down Varick Street and be a part of the huge crowd with their pub-crawling, but who says you can't grab one? Why not get really festive by getting a green beer? You can always go with a Guinness or a Smithwick's. Not interested in having any beer or alcoholic drinks on St. Patrick's Day? Get something else green... Shamrock Shake, anyone??

Other Events

The St. Patrick's Day Parade is scheduled for Saturday, March 11th in Utica. If you want nothing to do with all the St. Patty's Day shenanigans, there is still plenty of other things to do in Central New York. On Friday you can enjoy a fish fry, there are plenty of them going on from the Deerfield Fire Department to the St. Louis Gonzaga Church. On Saturday you can enjoy a spaghetti Dinner at Twin Churches of Holland Patent. On Sunday, the American Legion in Chadwicks Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner. And that's just a few of the things going on. You can always skip the events and go see a movie, go shopping, or go for a little road trip to get away from it all.

However you decide to celebrate St. Patrick's Day we hope you have a good one. And if you do decide to watch the St. Patrick's Day Parade and head down Varick Street afterwards, look for us. We'll be out there celebrating.
