Our sister site PopCrush is reporting that Whitney Houston may have drowned in a bathtub with the prescription drug Xanax in her system. Music and drugs isn’t a new concept for cause of death for famous recording artists. It’s sad to say but it happens a lot. A lot of great talents meet their end much earlier than they should due to drug abuse. Here’s 5 Musicians Lost To Drug Overdose.

Janis Joplin

At the height of her career, she was known as “The Queen of Rock and Roll” as well as “The Queen of Psychedelic Soul”. At the age of 27 she met her end to an overdose of heroin.

Jimi Hendrix

Jimi was considered to be the greatest guitarist in musical history, and one of the most influential musicians of his era across a range of genres. At the age of 27 he met his end with an overdose on nine Vesparax sleeping pills.

Jim Morrison

Jim Morrison was the lead singer and lyric guru of The Doors, as well as a poet. Following The Doors' rise to fame in 1967, Morrison developed a severe alcohol and drug dependency which untimely lead death in Paris in 1971 at age 27, due to a suspected heroin overdose. However, no autopsy was performed on his body after death, and the exact cause of his death is disputed by many to this day.

A cultural icon, he is referred to as the “King of Rock and Roll” or simply “the King”. Prescription drug abuse severely compromised his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 at the age of 42.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson is often referred to as the “King of Pop”, or by his initials “MJ”. Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. Jackson died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication on June 25, 2009, after suffering from cardiac arrest at age 50.
