We all realize New York City is a movie making mecca, but Upstate New York has also seen its share of "Hollywood."

1. In 1970, a cult movie called  I Drink Your Blood and I Eat Your Skin was filmed in the cozy village of Sharon Springs. Not only did this flick wake up the sleepy little Schoharie County town, it also caused nightmares for the Motion Picture Association of America because it was labeled the first x-rated movie for violence. Here's the trailer for this gory film: ********WARNING CONTAINS VIOLENCE*****

2. Do you remember when Robert Redford tied Barbara Streisand's shoelaces? The film was shot in Ballston Spa, New York in 1973. The movie is called The Way We Were, and it tells the story of two people who fall in love but are driven apart by differing political convictions and views. The film was produced by acclaimed director Sydney Pollack. Mr.Pollack is known for his work on The Firm starring Tom Cruise, and Tootsie with Dustin Hoffman. Here's the trailer:

3. When Matt Hubbell lived Ulster County years back, he used to frequent a restaurant known for allowing customers to toss their empty peanut shells on the floor: The Hurley Mountain Inn. This quaint little hideaway located in Hurley, New York is situated high on a hill and attracts lots of hungry customers.  The eating establishment also appealed to the producers of the hit movie Tootsie. Tootsie went on to win an Oscar for "Best Picture" in 1982. Here's the trailer:

4. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Who could ever forget this classic comedy starring John Candy, and Steve Martin? Director John Hughes filmed parts of this funny flick in South Dayton, New York. However, while the crew was filming between the mid-west, and the east coast, they had a hard time capturing a snow scene. When they eventually found some, it often melted away before they had a chance to film. Naturally, once they arrived in New York, there was no shortage of the white stuff. Here's the trailer:

5. The Emma Willard School in Troy, New York is a boarding institution for girls. Apparently perfume reigns at this ladies only academy because it was the "Scent of a Woman" (or one particular teacher,) that attracted Al Pacino and Chris O'Donnell to Upstate, New York. They both did some spectacular acting in the 1992 blockbuster movie.  Scent of a Woman isn't the only occasion Emma Willard School has appeared on the big screen; It has also been featured in The Age of Innocence, The Emperor's Club, and Ironweed starring Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. Here's the trailer:
