Oriskany's historic bell on top of the former Waterbury Felt Mill will ring once again on December 14th at 5PM.

The bell was used for many different purposes over the year including shift changes at the former Waterbury Felt Mill, and it even signified the arrival of Marquis de Lafayette during his visit alongside Col. Gerrit G. Lansing two centuries ago. The bell will ring once again at 5PM on December 14th.

“The community has really been waiting a long time to hear that sound once more, and we are happy to make it happen,” said James Kernan, the new owner of the property, who is in the process of redeveloping the old mill into a modern industrial complex called Waterbury Square.

The bell ringing is all part of the celebration of the 1914 incorporation of the village of Oriskany, which was founded in 1811. There will be displays of historic memorabilia and a cake. The “Christmas in the Place of the Nettles” event will take place at the Oriskany fire house and public library after the ringing of the bell.
