On Monday, August 21, when the moon's shadow blocks the sun - a once in a lifetime solar eclipse will occur. It will also be when guests aboard the Royal Caribbean's Total Eclipse Cruise will experience another 'eclipse', of sorts.

According to Time magazine, Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler will perform her 1983 hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" during the actual solar eclipse. Tyler will be joined by Joe Jonas' band DNCE. Their best known for the 2015 hit "Cake by the Ocean".

Tyler will be performing the song just as the eclipse is happening.

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" was Bonnie Tyler's follow-up to her 1978 top 5 hit "It's a Heartache". "Eclipse" went to #1 for 4 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 from the period October 1 - October 22, 1983. It sold 6-million copies going on to become on off the best-selling records of the 1980's.  It was Tyler's biggest career hit single.

While the moon will only block 70-75 percent of the sun here in Upstate and Central New York, it's still be a good idea to view the eclipse with a pair of solar viewing glasses. The glasses, which look like the old 3-D glasses are being given away at various libraries throughout Upstate New York.

Your next chance to see the total solar eclipse will happen on April 8, 2024 and will be more visible from Upstate New York.

Here is a list of libraries in the Utica/Rome area that are handing out free eclipse glasses.

Due to a high demand for the glasses, you may want to call each location on this list to be sure they still have some.

Happy Solar Eclipse Viewing!
