10 Who Fans Exchange 1979 Tickets for New Ones

Who Tickets

It only took 33 years but at long last the remaining ticket holders of the 1979 cancelled Who show have reason to celebrate — they’ve just traded in their tickets in exchange for new ones to the band’s February 2013 show at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I.

The band announced a while back that their upcoming tour — entitled ‘Quadrophenia and More‘ — will include a performance of the monumental album ‘Quadrophenia’ in its entirety as well as other picks from the group’s extensive archive.

It will be the Who’s first North American tour in four years, and the last stop just happens to be in Providence, where their 1979 performance was cancelled after 11 fans had been killed by an audience stampede at a Cincinnati show two weeks earlier. In fact, this will be The group’s first return to Providence since the unfortunate incident.

As recently reported, the General Manager of the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, Lawrence Lepore, announced that the venue would honor any remaining ticket holders from the cancelled show back in ’79. And wouldn’t you know, 10 Who fans turned in a total of 14 tickets.

According to the Providence Journal, in donating the tickets, each holder was given a brand new one to the 2013 show. As one Who fan noted, while the 2013 show ticket is worth $129.50, he paid $11 for the original.

All exchanged tickets will be put up for auction, with the proceeds donated to the Rhode Island Special Olympics.
