According to a new poll commissioned by Retrevo.com, one in three Americans say they have tweeted or postes something online that they later regretted. 54% of Americans under 25 admit to doing the same while owners of smartphones are more than twice as likely to post something they wish they didn't.

“The information people post to sites like Twitter and Facebook can easily go on to have a life of its own,” says Jennifer L. Jacobson, Director of Public Relations and Social Media for Retrevo.com. “You don’t always know who’s following you and just about anyone can take a screenshot of your post, save it, and share it with the world.” - Retrevo.com

My dad use to tell, "Think before you speak." Abraham Lincoln was quoted as saying, "It is better to remain silent and thought a fool then to speak and remove all doubt". It appears both bits of advice can be applied to Twitter and Facebook.
